Around 450 Indian exporters will participate in Ambiente 2019 to be organised by Messe Frankfurt from February 8 to 12, Indian Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta announced recently. India is a partner country for the event. While 380 exhibitors were shortlisted by Messe Frankfurt, the rest were selected by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH).

According to EPCH, the handicrafts sector has always shown a growth of around 10 per cent for the last nine years. However, during 2017-18, the sector registered a decline of about 5.59 per cent in rupee terms and about 1.8 per cent in US dollar terms, according to a report.

Tamta and EPCH Executive Director Rakesh Kumar hope that India as the partner country would provide the necessary thrust to handicraft exporters to find new markets and customers. In the 2018 show, India was represented by 434 companies and was the second-largest exhibiting nation.
