The 4th edition of India Mattresstech Expo 2018, a 3-day exhibition and conference event on technology, machinery and supplies for mattress and upholstery production was held from 12th to 14th July 2018 at the Chennai Trade Centre. The event, regarded as one of the most important events for the mattress industry, welcomed 2,640 industry experts and 102 exhibitors as the total attendance exceeded 3,000 business professionals including all exhibitor personnel. All in all, there were 30 foreign exhibitors, mainly from China, Turkey, Korea, Europe etc.

The exhibit profile included the Mattress Production Machinery & Supplies, Mattress Finishing Machinery & Supplies, Production Tools & Equipments, Upholstery production technology, machinery and supplies Bed Systems and New Materials.This event was supported by the Indian Polyurethane Association (IPUA) and Indian Sleep Products Federation (ISPF). The ISPF in addition of having a Stand at India MattresstechExpo, had also organised a 2-day Seminar Programme with lectures on various aspects of Mattress Production.

On the 1st day, the effective use of PU Foam in mattress industry presentation was presented by Dr Mahesh Gopalasamudram, Chairman, Indian Polyurethane Association and Ashok Puri, EC Member of IPUA. Sangeetha, RS Indian Manager & Zhongyao Lai, Overseas Manager, Hengchang Machinery Factory, gave a presentation on Technologies and Innovations in Mattress Quilting Machines while Laurent Philippe, Director, GTA Textiles, India, gave a presentation on Role of Fabric Quality on the performance and aesthetics of a Mattress. A presentation on Fire & Safety in Manufacturing Plant by Muthukumaran Ex-Huntsman International was lastly presented.

On the 2nd day, Lectures were given on Designing New Material for Sound Sleep by Govind Gupta, Marketing Manager, DOW Chemicals, India. Kishor Manji Butani, Director Sales and Customer Relations, Robatech AG, Switzerland, gave a presentation on Gluing Solutions for mattress manufacturing. Chandra Sekar, Senior Officer, Coir Board, Cochin gave a presentation on Coir Vikas Yojana and a presentation on Soft Landing – Mattress Product Stewardship in Australia was given by Isaac Emmanuel, Head – Industrial Marketing & Advocacy, Covestro (India) Pvt. Ltd.

All these informative lectures were very well received by the present audience.Overall, the impression is a positive one, the technology show on mattress is making an impact and the markets are moving towards organised sector gradually.
