Spider silk-based fibre producer Kraig Biocraft Laboratories has expanded its Board of Directors with the addition of Anurag Gupta; an appointment made to bolster the company’s skillset as it continues to drive its specialty products into new markets.

“We are pleased to welcome Anurag as the first, of several, new independent directors to be joining Kraig Lab’s board,” said chairman and CEO, Kim Thompson. “Anurag’s background and experience in corporate management, technology development, international operations, and investor relations will be an asset to the company as we continue to grow.”

Gupta, who has previously served as the CEO of Global Data Services for TBG and the President for BrightPoint across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, is believed to hold the necessary experience that will aid Kraig’s continued development.

For the past couple of years, the company’s focus has been on driving into the Vietnamese market, deemed to have a desirable silk infrastructure worth capitalising on. It’s received backing by the country’s government which, in July, awarded Kraig Labs an increased investment licence which will facilitate the expansion of its recombinant spider silk production capabilities at its subsidiary, Prodigy Textiles.

A the company gains momentum, Gupta commented, “I am excited about joining the Board of Kraig Labs and look forward to working alongside our Founder and CEO, Kim Thompson and my fellow Board members. “It is exciting to be a part of an innovative biotechnology company that is doing amazing work towards the development and commercialization of Spider Silk technology,” he added.
