Carpet Export Promotion Council recently organised an awareness seminar on Awareness of GST & Discussion on Strategy for Enhancing Export” in association with Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Srinagar under the aegis of O/o Development Commissioner (H), Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, at Hotel Four Points by Sheraton, Srinagar.

Siddh Nath Singh, Chairman, CEPC, Umer Hameed, 2nd Vice Chairman, CEPC, Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad, President KCCI, Sohan Kumar Jha, Sr. Director, O/O DCH, New Delhi, AK Pradhan, Dy. Director, O/o. the DC(Handicrafts), Srinagar, Umesh Kumar Gupta, Abdul Rub, Rajendra Prashad Mishra, Feroze Waziri, Husain Jafar Husaini, Shree Ram Maurya, Gulam Nabi Bhat, Satish Wattal, Bodh Raj Malhotra, Members Committee of Administration, CEPC, Sanjay Kumar, Executive Director, CEPC, Bipin Verma, Expert on GST were present in the Seminar.

Siddh Nath Singh, Chairman, CEPC in his address thanked the dignitaries and informed that Carpet Export Promotion Council has opened its Regional office in the campus of IICT, Srinagar which is fully functional now. Council is fully committed for growth and development of the Handmade Carpet Industry from the Jammu & Kashmir. Siddh Nath Singh informed the artisans about the RPL Scheme and its benefit. He also informed the participants that CEPC has already moved proposal and Ministry of Textile is likely to approve for setting up of Common Facility Centre (CFC), Dying Unit, Effluent Treatment Plan (ETP) and upgraded Design Bank for the Carpet Sector in Srinagar for J&K Region. On the demand of the industry Chairman assured that he will try his best to organise exhibitions of handmade carpets in Srinagar.

Umer Hameed, 2nd Vice-Chairman, CEPC assured that Council is dedicated for organising such awareness seminars/ workshops on frequent basis. Sanjay Kumar, Executive Director, CEPC informed the participants about the Indian Handmade Carpet Industry and the importance of GI. He assured that CEPC will help the industry all around for any kind of support for the growth and development of the carpet sector.

Sohan Kumar Jha, Sr. Director, O/ o. the DC(Handicrafts) informed the participants that the O/o. the DC(Handicrafts) is fully dedicated to the welfare of the Artisans and 7 offices and more than 400 officials of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) are already working in the State and requested participants to come forward to take the benefit of various schemes of Govt. of India for the welfare of the artisans.

Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad, President, KCCI and Member COA, CEPC given an insight view of the industry and assured that CEPC will be boon for the region in order to strengthen the exports of Handmade Carpets and other floor coverings. Sheikh Ashiq assured full support and cooperation of KCCI to the CEPC for the benefit of carpet industry in the region. Seminar was a grand success with more than 124 participants.
